New events put Dinton Pastures at heart of multi-sports action for 2015
A new swim challenge and races for children are among the highlights of an action-packed calendar of sports events coming up at Dinton Pastures Country Park.
Barnes Fitness director Ellie Barnes said: “This year we’re offering our spring duathlon, two open water swim challenges, our flagship triathlon, our hugely popular summer 5km and 10km run series, and two new events for youngsters.”
Making its debut for 2015 is the Barnes Fitness Swim Safari on 4 July, a 1,600m swim with two hops onto dry land. Ellie said: “Our Uber Swim proved so popular this year that we’ve added the Safari to give keen open water swimmers another great challenge to work towards.”
The Uber Swim — which involves swimming around 3,000 metres in Black Swan Lake and White Swan Lake and tackling three separate entry and exit points — returns on 9 May as the perfect open water season opener.
Also new are the Kids Good Friday Duathlon on 3 April, and the Kids Triathlon on 27 June. Both are open to children aged between eight and 14, with the distance covered varying depending on age. They will run and cycle on safe, traffic-free routes across the old Dinton golf course, and for the triathlon swim in Black Swan Lake.
The flagship event for 2015 is the Wokingham Triathlon Festival on 6 June, which features a sprint distance race comprising a 750m open water swim in Black Swan Lake, a 20km bike ride on quiet roads around Twyford and Hurst, and a 5km flat, off-road run back at Dinton Pastures.
Ellie said: “Our first Triathlon Festival was a great success, with 120 finishers, and we’re once again offering the choice of taking part as an individual or as part of a team.”
This year’s season opens with the Barnes Fitness Dinton Duathlon on 29 March, the fourth staging of the popular event which comprises a 5km run, 20km bike ride, and a second 5km run, all on the same routes as used in the triathlon.
Back for a fourth season is the popular Dinton Pastures 5km and 10km Summer Series, which opens on 14 May and continues with three further Thursday evening fixtures on 11 June, 9 July, and 13 August. As in previous years, runners can choose between one 5km off-road lap in the park, or complete two for the full 10km, with prizes sponsored by Lexus Reading on offer for the overall series winners.
Ellie said: “We’re delighted to be working alongside the local authority once again to deliver a full programme of sporting events open to all ages and all abilities. Dinton Pastures is a fantastic venue and we’re really looking forward to welcoming back both regular competitors and those new to multi-sport or running — or, indeed, both!”
Online entries are open here, along with full details of each race.
